Haddington Neilson Park and Tyne
Wed 3rd June

ELO’s event on Wednesday 3rd June was at Neilson Park in Haddington. It was a lovely summer evening and more than 50 people took part in at least one of the courses. Many of the Aberlady Cubs and Scouts enthusiastically tackled both the Yellow and the Short Orange courses in the park. More experienced orienteers left the park and explored the banks of the river Tyne  as part of their Long Orange course.

Many thanks to everyone who attended and to all ELO members for helping put on the event.

Results are here.

The next event in this series will be at Polson Park and the Heugh in Tranent on 17th June at 18:00.

Neilson Park information:

This is the latest in our series of evening informal events. There will be two courses:-

  • Yellow – entirely within the Neilson Park area – 1.6km
  • Long Orange – for 16 year olds and above – covering the park and the Tyneside path and involving road crossing – approx 5km.

It will also be possible to run the park section of Long Orange as a separate course of approiximately 1.7km.

Costs will be £2 for adults and 50p for under 16s.

The Neilson Park area will be covered by a normal orienteering map. The Tyneside path will also have a less detailed map.

Yellow course will have full SI timing with splits. Long Orange will just have start and finish times – the controls for this course will be tubes with no punching.

Stop Press: Long Orange will see nettles so bare legs may be risky – but you should be able to avoid the nettles with care.
