SOL1 Elibank
6th March

The 2016 Scottish Orienteering League (SOL) kicked off with Roxburgh Reivers’ event at Elibank Forest near Walkerburn in the Tweed valley.

The forest varies in tree density but is uniformly steep and is criss-crossed by a few helpful line features such as ruined walls and forestry tracks. The longer courses all featured a distinctive long leg to visit a newly added area in the SE of the map.

Eight ELO members attended. Everyone successfully completed their courses but most of us committed errors which pushed us down the results lists.

The standout performance was by Sheila Strain who came third on her course. Jonny Harding coped well with Short Blue at a high technical standard – and he beat his dad by ten minutes. Ian Rowlands must be regretting a detour off the map on the long leg but still scored well and will improve his BOF Ranking when it is updated later this week.

The SOL series continues with another comparatively accessible event at Bridge of Earn (INTerlopers) on 10th April.
