Polson Park information:

lodge orienteering 009

A scene from the NB event – checking maps before and after the run

This was the last in our summer series of Wednesday evening informal events.

Results are here.

Courses:-

  • Yellow – 1.4 km – entirely within the Polson Park area
  • Long Orange – 5  km – covering the Heugh and Meadowmill areas as well as Polson Park – involves road crossings and so was not open to under 16s
  • There was also an Urban Sprint in the neighbouring housing scheme – very confusing.

The park section of Orange will be available as a separate Short Orange 1.3km course too.

Costs will be £2 for adults and 50p for under 16s.

The Polson Park area will be covered by a normal orienteering map for Yellow and Short Orange. The Heugh and Meadowmill part of Long Orange also have a second less detailed map.

Yellow course will have full SI timing with splits. Long Orange (and Short Orange) will just have start and finish times – the controls will be tubes with no punching.

Parking is not very convenient near the main park gates. Nearest car park is at Coal Neuk opposite the Bronx Boxing Club off the A199 Edinburgh Road (NE of Polson Park).

Registration and Start / Finish will be near the main park entrance from Edinburgh Road.

There are plenty of nettles around the Heugh and Meadowmill about but it should be possible to avoid them and still reach all controls.

Thanks to everyone who helped put on this series of events and to all who took part – particularly to Aberlady cubs and scouts who were lively and enthusiastic on each occasion.
I’m very grateful also to Fran Humphrey for her kind comments on the new areas we visited – The Glen at NB, the Tyne at Haddington and the Heugh at Tranent.
