Scottish Championships 25th & 26th May

Drumlanrig - relay venue

The Scottish Championships were held in the south west over the last weekend in May. Dalbeattie provided a very tough challenge for the Individual Championships on Saturday with Drumlanrig being a gentler venue for the following day’s Relays.

Sixteen ELO members attended one or both days. There were Individual wins for Peter Atkinson, Neil McMillan and Kathryn Neill with Sheila Strain coming second in her very competitive category. Others of us were glad just to complete our courses in dense forest with control flags in tight placements.

None of our Relay teams reached the podium but there were some strong performances – notably Angus Wright bringing his team in at third position after his first leg, and Dave Wright completing his first ever TD5 course in a very creditable time.

There was some excitement at the prize giving ceremony as it appeared that ELO had won the trophy for best Small Club on the strength of Saturday’s good placings across a wide range of courses. Sadly on a recount we found that we had fallen short by a single point and reluctantly had to return the trophy.

However the 2020 championships are nearer to home at Tentsmuir in Fife so perhaps we will gain that precious extra point next year.
