Festive Frolic 2014
John Muir CP

Sunday 28th December

You all seemed to enjoy yourself at John Muir in the usual Dunbar sunshine. Results here.
Thanks for all the comments. Any suggestions for next year’s format are welcome. We are running out of ideas!

The Festive Frolic in the year of the Centenary of John Muir’s death is being held near his birthplace of Dunbar,  so that is where you should come on Sunday to work off some of the Christmas excesses

John Muir Country Park

The John Muir Country Park is Grid Ref NT649785 – Post Code EH42 1UW

Information about the area:
The area is a mixture of coastal dunes and mature pine forest. There is a good path and ride network and some areas of complex contours. We are using part of an extension to the west of the old map.

The old name of the area was Hedderwick Hill, but the hill wasn’t on the map and the area is mostly flat. The tide will be out that day so you should be able to cross to the part of the area called Spike Island without getting your feet wey

Directions:
Most people will approach on the A1. At the Thistly Cross roundabout west of Dunbar, take the A199 and then A1087. Just before the 30mph signs, turn left and follow signs to parking. Note that this is not our normal parking area.

Registration, download and toilets:
We have arranged to use the café at the East Links Family Park for Registration and Results, so park there (on the right side of the car park).
You can register on-line to save time and work on the morning, but you will be able to register on the day as well.
Please give the café your custom whilst we process the results, the prize giving will be in the café as soon as we have them worked out.

Start and Finish:
There will be a short walk from registration to the start/finish area.

Map:
The map has been extended slightly westward in December 2014 and is now printed at 1:10000.

Courses:
There is one course, a 60 minute score event. That means that you have 60 minutes to get to as many controls as you can. Some of the controls will be easy to find and of course there is no need to stay out for the whole 60 minutes. Of course, being the Festive Frolic, there will be a little extra twist but we won’t tell you what it is in advance.

There will be a string tinsel course near start/finish.

Start times:
Registration from 10.00am to 10:50. There will be a mass start at 11:00am.

Entries:
Pre-entry on O-entries makes things much easier both for us and for you at the event and will remain open until 10pm on Saturday. We will have lots of maps for entry on the day and, if not entering in advance, it would help if you download this registration form and complete as much as possible.
Seniors and groups £6
Juniors £3

Safety:
We can’t predict at this stage what the weather will be, but part of the area can be very exposed. There are some steep slopes where the sea storms have washed away some of the park!

Extra Attractions:
The East Links Family Park has a wide range of activities for those paying their normal admission. See their web site.
