Stepping into Spring weekend
10th & 11th March

FVO hosted a busy weekend of orienteering with the Scottish Sprint Championships at Stirling on Saturday and the Scottish heat of the Compass Sport Cup & Trophy on Sunday at Beecraigs near Linlithgow.

There were strong performances by several ELO runners on Saturday and on Sunday ELO came a very creditable 6th out of 13 clubs in the Compass Sport trophy.

In cold rain at Stirling University campus Sheila Strain came within 4 tantalising seconds of being the champion in her category. Robin Strain came 4th with Joel and Emily Atkinson each finishing 3rd on their courses. Emily was only beaten by girls in an older age group.

And all 11 ELO runners contributed at Beecraigs where slushy snow made for cold feet and tough running. Robin Strain scored most points with another strong run but the beauty of this team event is that everyone can chip in. Both Jamie Thomas and Saartje Drijver stepped out of their comfort zones to successfully tackle longer tougher courses.
